Our Waterview Community
Waterview is a small and diverse community where
people know their neighbours and local children play in local
parks.
The suburb is small by Auckland standards, but is
surrounded by a stunning natural landscape. To the West is Oakley Creek,
which has a rich biodiversity and Auckland's biggest urban
waterfall. To the East is the Motu Manawa Marine Reserve, protected by the
Department of Conservation. It is a community with several parks and
playgrounds, a coastal esplanade walk, the Oakley Creek walkway and
the Marine Reserve.
Waterview has a long history of occupation by Mana
Whenua prior to European settlement. It is also home to Auckland second oldest Mill
Site, built in 1850. It is now home to 3,378 people from New Zealand and
around the world.
The local shopping centre is small (Auckland's
friendliest dairy, a laundromat and a bakery) but the larger shopping
centres of Point Chevalier and Avondale are close by. Buses regularly travel
along Great North Rd. We have a kindergarten next to the school, a community hall
(on the school grounds), several churches and are close to Unitec, Point Chevalier
beach and several sports clubs.
