We are monitoring the situation in China closely with regards to the concerns around a potentially pandemic virus. We have procedures in place for the incidence of infectious diseases, and we will be revisiting them with our staff before classes return on Monday. We are monitoring the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and Safe Travel NZ sites to ensure we have access to the most up-to-date information and advisories. Secretary for Education encourages schools to ask that any staff member, student or parent/caregiver of any student, who may be at high risk of exposure because they have recently been to China or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with the virus, delay the start of their school year for 14 days and voluntarily stay away. We ask that if you or any member of your household has just arrived back from China or have been in contact with anyone confirmed with the virus to delay your child’s start to school by 14 days.

• As with all infectious diseases, and in line with our existing procedures, we have the following steps in place;

• Strong hygiene and cleaning practices in place during school time and by school cleaners

• Reminders for students and staff about good personal hygiene practice (wash your hands regularly, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, cover your coughs and sneezes).

• Monitoring students for symptoms of fever, runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat, muscle ache, and generally feeling unwell. We are contacting parents if these are present.

• Reminding children about not sharing food As with all illness in a school/community setting, children and adults are advised not to come to school if they are unwell.

Thank you for your support and as always, we are here to answer any concerns or questions you may have.
